After finishing dinner, I would normally relax and watch TV, but Kaede came to me with a big smile and made a suggestion that I couldn’t react to. The lanyard in her hand made it look even more sinister than it was.

One male and one female pair were selected from each class to race around the ground. Because it was a male and female pair, it was embarrassingly called the couples race.

Shinji and I were going to participate in the jousting and pole vaulting. This area did not need much practice, so it would be a big deal.

Just before Kaede fell to the floor, I slipped my hand in just in time to avoid hitting her head. And then I supported her body with my hands and I wasn’t covered up, so I was in a position like a floor slam, not a wall slam.

Kaede swallowed her spit with a slurp. Her eyes glowed like a predator that had found the perfect prey. If I didn’t get out of here soon, I would be in trouble.

Kaede stretched out her hands as far as they would go and demanded to be squeezed. Ignoring this, I stood up and took her hands and lifted her body up with great force. But it was Kaede Ichiba, a girl who wouldn’t get up easily after a fall. She used her momentum to hug me.

I nudged the head of a spoiled kitten who was rubbing her cheek against mine. I could almost hear her cute little meow.

We stepped out awkwardly, as if checking each other out. It was okay. I knew Kaede’s gait because we walked side by side every day. The only difference was whether or not it was tied with a lanyard.
Then we slowly made our way to the bedroom. It was an anticlimax, as we got there without any problems.
“That’s right! How about starting tomorrow morning, we go to school in this state every morning!? Wouldn’t that be a great way to practice our skills, since we can dash and stuff on the way!?”
“Yeah, please do your best to give me a break.”
It was indeed too embarrassing to do so.
